Tyrell Hundley, Joliet police officer, opened Rage Cage, a rage room, in Downtown Joliet on May 14.
Rage Cage is a place for customers to safely smash and destroy objects as a form of stress relief. Customers are given goggles, gloves, and jumpsuits. Bottles, dishes, and old furniture are common objects to be destroyed in rage rooms.
“Rage Cage is about more than breaking things. It’s about release, reset and mental wellness,” Hundley said on the company’s website.
Hundley, who remains an active Joliet police officer, said his experiences on the job helped inspire the business.
“As a police officer, I understand how critical it is to have positive outlets, spaces that help prevent stress from turning into something harmful,” Hundley said.
Hundley’s family has owned the downtown building housing Rage Cage, and he said opening the business in Joliet was intentional.
“Downtown Joliet is evolving and I wanted to be part of that growth, not somewhere else, but right here. Investing in the city is my way of giving back to the community that raised me and shaped who I am,” Hundley said.
