The organization was founded over 50 years ago by Adler, Maher, and Hernandez, who saw a need within the migrant community in Joliet. Starting in a small house on Herkimer Street, the SCC became a place where people could find help and guidance

In the early 1980s, the organization moved to its current location, allowing it to expand its services and reach more individuals and families.
