Joliet local Lorraine Guerrero Neumayer, trauma therapist, opened her new private practice, Healing Place, to help serve children and caregivers who struggle with trauma.
“I am working with children through adults… and it’s really to help ensure that people are processing their trauma so that they can move on, and also giving them the connections in the community and systems so that they can thrive and move forward through their trauma,” Guerrero says.
She serves on the Joliet Township High School Board, and is a senior trauma therapist at the Will County Children’s Advocacy Center.
Guerrero’s credentials, Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), and Professional Educator License (PEL), were all intentionally chosen to best support both children and their caregivers.
“I’ve worked in a lot of systems, and one thing that I think is missing often is, we can treat children everyday and treat their trauma and do a great job; we really need to also focus on the people taking care of them… and that’s what made me start this” Guerrero says.
Guerrero states that she wishes to provide the kind of person who was there for her growing up.
“As a survivor of childhood trauma with vicarious trauma…, that’s something I wanted to do- also reach the caregivers to help give them the tools that they need to help their children thrive.”
Her tagline, “compassion, strength, and esperanza” reflects the heart of her mission, creating a safe supportive space where children and adults can receive the healing and support they deserve.
