Plainfield based non-profit theater company, Theatre 319, presents “Noises Off” by Michael Frayn on April 9-10 at Aurora University’s Perry Theatre at 5:45 p.m.
Theatre 319’s president, Maggie Dix, and vice president, Christina Velazquez, got the idea for the theater company in high school during a trip to Illinois Theatre Fest. The hotel room they stayed in, 319, being present in the company’s name.
“We want to bring community theater to where we grew up, because growing up there weren’t a lot of opportunities for us theater wise outside of school,” Velazquez said. “Now we want to give that opportunity to other people.”
In March 2025, Theatre 319 put on a production of “The Trail to Oregon” by Starkid, and in July of the same year, “Radium Girls” by D.W. Gregory.
“I think that these stories tell a story that doesn’t get told all the time, and it’s really important; especially in times like this,” Dix said.
“Noises Off” will be their third official show, starring community members of various ages and backgrounds.
The show is a “play within a play”, and follows a theater company’s chaotic production of a fictional play, “Nothing On”.
“Every single actor plays two characters. They play an ‘actor-character’, and their ‘character’s character,’” Luke Van Duyne, “Noises Off” director, says.
Theatre 319 will hold auditions for their fourth production, “Puffs”, in May, followed by the performances on August 6-7.
